Asleep in Gods palm

I might never sail
far enough north
to see the northern lights of yours
not this lifetime
I might never sail
far enough south
to see the southern cross above you
not...this lifetime
I was touched by this rare planetary feeling
this evening when
a full moon rose like the universal lantern
pale and globe-like over chalk-stone mountains
while I was moving my humble vessel
barefoot and slow over your dear body
mother earth
Now all these stars that followed shyly
resemble all I wish for you tonight
as my compass lies motionless
just like my body
in unconditional union
in deeply interwoven intimacy
just like the first night
a mother and a newborn child
silently spend together and breathe
asleep in Gods palm
