Mousetrap two

I was about to cross that bridge
to cross...the river
when I saw her coming
from the other side
She was a girl of maybe ten
she held something in her two hands
somehow careful, somehow awkwardly
In the middle of the bridge
we met not... but passed each other
as she looked down at the river
and I spied on the object she carried
It was a mousetrap
One of these alive-catch tunnel traps
We met not but passed some kind of baton say...
at 1 p.m....so:
she must have come home from school
finding the mouse in the trap
walking out poorly dressed into this rain and
over this bridge with the trap and the mouse
to release her free there on that other side
to not
come back
To release her, the mouse and: tunnel-trap me in a way
on a bridge
where I spent time and time and time
after she was gone
to ponder and to find out what
what....
What it was
that I, I...
should possibly carry over
and release beyond that bridge
carry over the river
and finally release
on the other side
of that bridge
to
not
come
back
